Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Three successive nights like these nights of yours will come, so long that when those who pray tahajjud recognise their length, a man among them will get up and complete his set portion of recitation and glorification, then he will sleep; then he will get up again and recite his routine portion, then he will sleep, and then he will get up and recite his routine portion. While they are in this state, the people will suddenly rush towards one another in agitation, saying, 'What is this terrifying situation?' They will all turn to the mosques in great distress and fear, and suddenly they will see that the sun has risen from here, that is, from its place of setting (the west). Then it will travel across the sky until, when it reaches the very middle of the sky, it will turn back from there. And this is the stage about which Allah Almighty said: 'No soul will benefit from its faith if it had not believed before or earned some good through its faith' [Surah al-An'am: 158], that is, at that time faith will not benefit anyone who had not believed before it, or who had not earned any good deed while in a state of faith."
Abu Ya'la narrated this hadith in his Musnad; the narrator Sulayman bin Abi Idam in its chain is da'if (weak), and for this reason this report is weak in its chain.
