It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw in a dream as if Banu al-Hakam were leaping about on his (peace and blessings be upon him) pulpit. When morning came, signs of strong displeasure and anger were evident on his (peace and blessings be upon him) radiant face, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is the matter with me that I saw Banu al-Hakam leaping on my pulpit as monkeys leap?" The narrator related that after this incident he (peace and blessings be upon him) was never seen laughing (openly) until his death.
Imam al-Hakim narrated this hadith in al-Mustadrak and declared it sahih al-isnad (authentic in chain), while other imams have criticised the memory of some of its narrators.
