It is narrated from a man of Banu Dabbah that he said: I was present with Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when he halted at Karbala. He went there, stood on one side and, pointing with his hand, said: "The place where their riding camels will kneel is in front of it, and the place where their saddles will be put down is to its left." Then he struck the ground with his hand, took a handful of earth from it, smelled it and said: "Wahan, wa habbadha al-dima'u tusfaku fihi" (Ah! How blessed and beloved is the blood that will be shed in this ground!) The narrator said: Then (some time later) Sayyiduna al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) came and stayed at Karbala. The Dabbi narrator relates: I was in the cavalry that Ibn Ziyad sent against Sayyiduna al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him). When I arrived there, I remembered Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) standing there and pointing with his hand, so I turned my horse around, went to Sayyiduna al-Husayn bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both), greeted him with salam and said: "Indeed, your honoured father (may Allah be pleased with him) was the most knowledgeable of all people. I was present here with him at such-and-such a time, and he said such-and-such about this place; and by Allah, you will be martyred at this very time." He (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Then what do you intend to do now? Will you join us, or will you go back to your family?" I said: "By Allah, I am burdened with debt and I have children, and I think I will go back to my family." He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If not, then take from this money what you need (and at that time there was money placed before him) before it becomes unlawful for you, and then save yourself from here. For by Allah, whoever hears our call for help and sees the gleam of our swords and then does not strive to help and support us will be accursed on the tongue of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." I said: "By Allah, today I will not do two things together: collect your money and also leave you helpless." So that man went back from there without taking the money.
