It is narrated from Abu al-Aswad al-Dili that he said: Zur'ah bin Damrah and I set out with Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) towards Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and I met Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both). He said: "Soon a time will come when no Arab will remain in the land of the non-Arabs except one who is killed or becomes a captive whose blood is to be decided (at the discretion of the enemy)." At this Zur'ah asked him: Will the polytheists prevail over the people of Islam? He asked: Which tribe are you from? He replied: I am from Banu Amir bin Sa'sa'ah. Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "The Hour will not be established until the shoulders of the women of Banu Amir bin Sa'sa'ah jostle against one another (in circumambulation or crowding) at Dhu al-Khalasah." And Dhu al-Khalasah was one of the idols of the Jahiliyyah. The narrator says: Then we mentioned this statement of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said three times: "Abdullah knows better (than me) what he is saying." After that, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered the sermon on Friday and said: Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A group from my Ummah will always remain upon the truth, aided by Allah, until the command of Allah comes." The narrator says: Then we told Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) this statement of Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: The Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke the truth; (the reality is that) when the command of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, comes, then what I said will happen.
I (Ibn Hajar) say: There is a break (inqita') in its chain between Qatadah and Abu al-Aswad; however, all its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
Imam Abu Ya'la said that Abu Khaythamah narrated it to us from Mu'adh bin Hisham in a similar way.
Abu Sa'id also narrated this same hadith to us through Mu'adh.
Imam Abu Dawud said: Hammam narrated to us from Qatadah, from Ibn Buraydah, from Sulayman bin al-Rabi', from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A group from my Ummah will always remain upon the truth until the Hour is established."
Imam Abu Ya'la said: Muhammad bin Isma'il bin Abi Saminah al-Basri narrated to us; he narrated this same hadith from Abu Dawud.
