Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 434Q — Gathering for Friday prayer in houses

It is narrated from Ibrahim bin Ubayd bin Rifa'ah that he said: I went to Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) in Makkah and found him leading his companions in prayer while sitting. (The narrator then related the full) hadith, in which it is also (mentioned) that he said: "We used to call (with the adhan) for prayer in our houses and gather our families (for congregational prayer)."
Imam Abd bin Humayd recorded this report in his Musnad; the narrator in its chain, Khalid bin Ilyas, is da'if (weak) and matruk al-hadith (abandoned) according to the hadith scholars.
