Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 4311 — The Battle of Hunain

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Yazid bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he mentioned a retreat in which the Muslims fell back (during the battle) and the disbelievers rushed after them in pursuit. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took a handful of earth from the ground, turned towards the polytheists and threw it in their faces, saying: "Go back! May these faces be disfigured!" The narrator said: Then (such was the effect of this miraculous act that, in the enemy ranks) whoever met his companion was complaining of specks of dust and grit in his eyes.
The chain of this hadith is hasan (good). Imam Ahmad recorded it in his Musnad and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir.
