It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of the Battle of Hunayn the people scattered and fell back from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and only one man remained steadfast with him (peace and blessings be upon him), who was called Zayd. He was holding the bridle of his (peace and blessings be upon him) grey mule. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Zayd! Bless you, call the Muhajirun, for they bear on their necks a pledge of allegiance made for the sake of Allah Almighty." Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: (On hearing the call) a thousand of them came rushing back, having thrown away the scabbards of their swords and broken them. Then they came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), until Allah Almighty honoured them with victory and help.
The chain of this hadith is hasan (good). Imam Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili recorded it in his Musnad, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
