It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was standing guard by the blessed head of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), holding a sword, with a veil over his face. Meanwhile Urwah bin Mas'ud al-Thaqafi, while talking to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), began (as was his habit) reaching out his hand towards his (peace and blessings be upon him) blessed beard. So Sayyiduna al-Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) said (rebuking him sharply): "Pull your hand back, or else your hand (will be cut off and) will not come back to you intact." At that time Sayyiduna al-Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) had a sword hanging from his shoulder. Urwah asked: "O Messenger of Allah, who is this?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is your nephew, al-Mughirah." Urwah said (angrily): "Yes, O treacherous one! Have I yet washed my head of your treachery? (That is, I am still paying for your treachery.)"
This chain is of the utmost authenticity. This narration is in Sahih al-Bukhari through al-Zuhri, from Urwah (bin al-Zubayr), from Marwan bin al-Hakam and al-Miswar bin Makhramah, in the long hadith about the story of al-Hudaybiyah and the Umrat al-Qada', and in it there is irsal (a break in the chain), whereas this chain is better in terms of connection and more reliable; that is why I have added it (istidrak).
