وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَوَّاتَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ إِلَى بَنِي قُرَيْظَةَ يَدْعُوهُمْ ، فَقَالُوا : إِنَّمَا مَثَلُنَا مَثَلُ رَجُلٍ كَانَ لَهُ جَنَاحَانِ ، فَقُطِعَ أَحَدُهُمَا وَبَقِيَ الْآخَرُ ، فَأَبَوْا .

It is narrated from Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Khawwat bin Jubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) to Banu Qurayzah to invite them (to the truth). They replied: "Our example is like that of a man who has two arms (or wings); then one of them is cut off and the other remains." So they flatly refused (to accept the invitation).
