وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِيَادٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا انْطَلَقَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ مُسْتَخْفِيَيْنِ فِي الْغَارِ ، مَرَّا بِعَبْدٍ يَرْعَى غَنَمًا ، فَاسْتَسْقَا مِنَ اللَّبَنِ ، فَقَالَ : وَاللهِ مَا لِي شَاةٌ تُحْلَبُ ، غَيْرَ أَنَّ هَاهُنَا عَنَاقًا حَمَلَتْ أَوَانَ الشِّتَاءِ ، فَمَا بَقِيَ لَهَا لَبَنٌ وَقَدِ اهْتُجِنَتْ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ائْتِنَا بِهَا ، فَدَعَا عَلَيْهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْبَرَكَةِ ثُمَّ حَلَبَ عُسًّا فَسَقَى أَبَا بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، ثُمَّ حَلَبَ آخَرَ فَسَقَى الرَّاعِيَ ، ثُمَّ حَلَبَ فَشَرِبَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ الْعَبْدُ : بِاللهِ مَنْ أَنْتَ ؟ مَا رَأَيْتُ مِثْلَكَ قَطُّ ، قَالَ : وَتُرَاكَ إِنْ أَخْبَرْتُكَ تَكْتُمُ عَلَيَّ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : فَإِنِّي مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللهِ قَالَ : أَنْتَ الَّذِي تَزْعُمُ قُرَيْشٌ أَنَّكَ صَابِئٌ ؟ قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّهُمْ لَيَقُولُونَ ذَلِكَ ، قَالَ : فَإِنِّي أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ لَرَسُولُ اللهِ ، وَأَنَّ مَا جِئْتَ بِهِ حَقٌّ ، وَأَنَّهُ لَيْسَ يَفْعَلُ مَا فَعَلْتَهُ إِلَّا نَبِيٌّ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : أَتَّبِعُكَ ؟ قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : لَا ، حَتَّى تَسْمَعَ أَنَّا قَدْ ظَهَرْنَا ، فَإِذَا بَلَغَكَ ذَلِكَ فَاخْرُجْ ، فَتَبِعَهُ بَعْدَمَا خَرَجَ مِنَ الْغَارِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Qays bin al-Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) set out (at the time of the Hijrah) to hide in the cave, they passed by a slave who was grazing goats. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him for milk to drink, and he said: By Allah, I have no goat that can be milked, except this young she-goat which conceived at the start of winter, but now its milk has completely dried up and it is emaciated. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring it to us." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated for blessing upon it, and milked it into a large wooden bowl, then gave Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to drink; then he milked again and gave the shepherd his fill; then he milked more and drank himself (peace and blessings be upon him). The slave asked in amazement: By Allah, who are you? I have never seen anyone like you (so full of blessing). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What do you think, if I tell you, will you keep my secret?" He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed I am Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and I am the Messenger of Allah." He said: Are you the one about whom Quraysh claim that you have abandoned your religion? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, that is what they say." He said: I bear witness that you are truly the Messenger of Allah, and that what you have brought is the truth, and that what you have done, only a prophet can do. Then he said: Shall I come with you now? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Not now; not until you hear that we have prevailed. When that news reaches you, then come out (to us)." So he came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) (in Madinah) after the event of the cave.
Imam Abu Ya'la narrated it in his Musnad; the narrators of its chain are thiqat (trustworthy), and this narration is strong on the basis of other supporting reports (shawahid).
