It is narrated from Uthman bin al-Qasim that Sayyidah Umm Ayman (may Allah be pleased with her) set out from Makkah to Madinah to emigrate to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She was walking on foot and had no provisions for the journey, and she was fasting on a day of intense heat. During the journey she became so severely thirsty that she was close to dying from the intensity of the thirst. She said: "Then, when the sun had set, suddenly I heard a rustling, the sound of something moving above my head. I raised my head, and what did I see but a bucket of water hanging from a white rope. It came close to me until, when it was at a distance where I could easily take hold of it, I took it and drank from it until I was fully quenched. After this incident, my state was such that I would fast on the hottest days and then deliberately walk about in the scorching sun so that I would become thirsty, but after drinking from that bucket I never felt thirst again."
Imam Ahmad bin Mani' narrated it in his Musnad, and its chain is hasan (good).
