وَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى أَبِي ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ هَارُونَ الْبَرْبَرِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ قَالَ : قَدِمَ رَجُلٌ بَعْدَ وَفَاةِ عَائِشَةَ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا - فَسَأَلَهُ عُبَيْدُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ : كَيْفَ رَأَيْتَ وَجْدَ النَّاسِ عَلَيْهَا ؟ قَالَ : وَاللهِ مَا اشْتَدَّ وَجْدُهُمْ كُلَّ ذَاكَ . قَالَ عُبَيْدُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ : إِنَّمَا يَحْزَنُ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا - مَنْ كَانَتْ لَهُ أُمًّا .
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Ubayd bin Umayr that after the sorrowful passing of the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), a man arrived, and Ubayd bin Umayr asked him: "What did you see of the people's grief, sorrow and heartache over her death?" The man replied: "By Allah, their grief was not so very intense." On hearing this, Ubayd bin Umayr (making a wise remark) said: "In truth, only the one for whom she was (in the position of) a mother will grieve and mourn over the death of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her)."
