Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 4083 — The merits of Abdullah bin Salam

It is narrated from Imam Muhammad bin Ka'b al-Qurazi (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The first person who will now enter through the door of this mosque is one of the people of Paradise." Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) entered, and a man said to him: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has said such-and-such about you; so which of your deeds is the most reliable, upon which you have confidence (of acceptance and salvation)?" He replied: "Indeed, my deeds are very weak; however, my most solid and reliable deed through which I hope (for the mercy of Allah) is that my heart is free of every kind of rancour, and that I leave aside what is idle and of no concern to me."
This hadith is da'if (weak), and it is also munqati' (broken) in its chain.
The basis of this hadith is in the 'Sahih' in the connected narration of Qays bin Ubad and Kharashah bin al-Hurr from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him), but the question and answer at its end are not mentioned there.
The narration of Sayyiduna Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) is mawquf (a Companion's statement), and it has passed in the Book of Knowledge.
And the mursal narration of Imam al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) is mentioned in the tafsir of Surah al-Ahqaf.
