قَالَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ : حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ، حَدَّثَتْنِي جَدَّتِي ، عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : أَنَّهُ أَصَابَهُ سَهْمٌ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْضِ غَزَوَاتِهِ ، فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : يَا رَافِعُ ، إِنْ شِئْتَ رَفَعْتُ السَّهْمَ وَتَرَكْتُ الْقُطْبَةَ ، وَأَشْهَدُ لَكَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِأَنَّكَ شَهِيدٌ ؟ قَالَ : فَفَعَلَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) that in one of the expeditions, while he was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), an arrow struck and lodged in him. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "O Rafi', if you wish, I will pull out the arrow (its shaft) and leave its head (the iron tip) in your body, and I will bear witness for you on the Day of Resurrection that you are a martyr." Rafi' (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did just that.
Imam al-Tayalisi recorded it; there is weakness in the chain of the report because the grandmother of Yahya bin Abd al-Hamid is majhul (unknown); however, owing to other supporting reports, it has a basis.
