It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) that there was a disabled man in Madinah who said to his family: "Seat me on the path that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) takes to the mosque." The narrator says: So this crippled man was seated on the path of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and went to the mosque, he would greet this disabled man with salam. Then once the man's family came to take him back, but he said: "By Allah, I will never move from this place as long as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is alive; build me a hut here." So they built a hut for him and he lived in it. Then whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by on the way to the mosque, he would enter that hut and greet the disabled man with salam, and whenever he (peace and blessings be upon him) obtained some fine or fresh item of food, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would send some to this disabled man as well. The narrator says: Then, while we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), a man suddenly came and informed him (peace and blessings be upon him) of the death of this disabled man. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) immediately stood up and we went along with him (peace and blessings be upon him), until, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) drew near the hut, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his Companions: "Let no one besides me come near this hut." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) approached the hut and saw that Jibril (peace be upon him) was sitting beside the disabled man. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, had you not come, we would have sufficed for his affair; but now that you have come, you are more entitled to him (to wash and shroud him)." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went over to the man, washed him with his own blessed hand, shrouded him, led his funeral prayer and lowered him into the grave.
Fa'id Abu al-Warqa' is alone in narrating this report, and he is a weak narrator.
