قَالَ أَحْمَدُ فِي الزُّهْدِ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ قَالَ : قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : إِنِّي لَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ أَلْفَ مَرَّةٍ ، وَذَلِكَ عَلَى قَدْرِ دِيَتِهِ . أَوْ قَالَ : دِيَتِي .
Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) relates that Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Indeed, every day I say twelve thousand times: 'Astaghfirullaha wa atubu ilayh' (I seek the forgiveness of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and I repent to Him), and this litany is equal to the amount of his blood money (diyah)" - or he said (with doubt): "equal to the amount of my blood money."
