It is narrated from Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) "forbade facing the qiblah while relieving oneself, that is, while defecating or urinating"; and in another chain, also transmitted from Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him), his (peace and blessings be upon him) blessed words are: "Do not face the qiblah (when relieving yourselves)." Imam Ayyub differed from Abdullah bin Nafi' in the chain of this narration and narrated it through Nafi' from a man of the Ansar, from his father (may Allah be pleased with him); and Imam Ahmad, Ibn Abi Shaybah and Musaddad also recorded this hadith.
