حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، قَالَ : أَشْرَفَ عَلَيْنَا عُثْمَانُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يَوْمَ الدَّارِ ، فَقَالَ : يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ، لَا تَقْتُلُونِي فَإِنَّكُمْ إِنْ قَتَلْتُمُونِي كُنْتُمْ هَكَذَا ، وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ .
It is narrated from Abu Layla (may Allah have mercy on him) that on the Day of the House (the day his house was besieged) Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) looked down upon us from above and said: "O people! Do not kill me, for if you kill me, you will become like this (at one another's throats and caught in trials)," and to show a picture of it, he (may Allah be pleased with him) interlaced the fingers of both his hands.
