It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have married off my daughter, and it is my heartfelt wish that you help me with something." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "At the moment I have nothing (to give), but do this: tomorrow morning bring me a wide-mouthed flask and a twig from a tree, and it is agreed between you and me that you will (come and) knock on one side of the door." The narrator said: Then the man came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) with a wide-mouthed flask and a twig from a tree, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) began wiping the blessed sweat from his blessed forearms and putting it into the flask until the flask was full. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take it, and tell your daughter to dip this twig into the flask and use it as perfume." The narrator said: Whenever that girl applied that perfume, the people of Madinah would smell its fragrance, so that their households came to be called "the houses of the perfumed ones", that is, 'buyut al-mutayyabin'.
Imam Abu Ya'la narrated this hadith in his Musnad (hadith: 3833). There is criticism of its chain because of a narrator named Halbas bin Ghalib; however, the fragrance of the blessed sweat of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and its use for blessing (tabarruk) are established by other reliable narrations in the two Sahihs.
