Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 3820 — The Prophet ﷺ understanding the speech

It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) from the tribe of Juhaynah or Muzaynah that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Fajr prayer and saw close to one hundred wolves sitting on their haunches, resting on their hind legs. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is a delegation of wolves. They are asking you to set aside for them some portion of the food that is surplus to your needs, and in return you will be safe and secure from their harm with regard to the rest of your property and belongings." The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) complained to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) of their need and poverty, upon which he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then give them permission to leave (without giving them anything)." The narrator said: Then the Companions signalled to them to depart, and the wolves went away howling and growling.
