قَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ النِّيلِيُّ ، ثَنَا صَالِحٌ الْمُرِّيُّ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ بَعْضِ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ . وَعَنْ يَزِيدَ الرَّقَاشِيِّ ، وَجَعْفَرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ زُفَرَ قَالَ : قَالَ بَعْضُ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ : لَقَدْ طَلَبْتُ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ عُمُرِي فَمَا قَدَرْتُ عَلَيْهَا ، قَوْلُ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : وَإِنْ قِيلَ لَكُمُ ارْجِعُوا فَارْجِعُوا وَإِنِّي لَأَسْتَأْذِنُ عَلَى بَعْضِ إِخْوَانِي فَيُقَالُ لِي : ارْجِعْ فَأَرْجِعُ ، وَأَنَا قَرِيرُ الْعَيْنِ .
It is narrated from some of the Muhajir Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) that one of them said: "All my life I sought (to fulfil the requirement of) this blessed verse, but I was not able to (that is, I never got the opportunity). It is this saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: 'And if it is said to you: Go back, then go back' [Surah al-Nur: 28]. It was my wish that I would ask permission (to enter the house) of some of my brothers and be told: 'Go back,' so that I would turn back (gladly), being well pleased and content at heart with that."
