وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْحٌ ، ثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا ، فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى : زِدْنَاهُمْ عَذَابًا فَوْقَ الْعَذَابِ قَالَ : خَمْسَةُ أَنْهَارٍ يُعَذَّبُونَ بِبَعْضِهَا فِي اللَّيْلِ وَبِبَعْضِهَا فِي النَّهَارِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning this saying of Allah Almighty: "We will add to them punishment upon punishment" [Surah al-Nahl: 88], that he said: "What is meant is five rivers, with some of which they will be punished at night and with some of them during the day."
