وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ وَاصِلِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ الرَّقَاشِيِّ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ ابْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ ، وَعَنْ أَبِي سَوْرَةَ ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ هَؤُلَاءِ الَّذِينَ قَالَ فِيهِمْ : رِجَالٌ يُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يَتَطَهَّرُوا وَاللهُ يُحِبُّ الْمُطَّهِّرِينَ قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : كَانُوا يَسْتَنْجُونَ بِالْمَاءِ ، وَكَانُوا لَا يَنَامُونَ اللَّيْلَ كُلَّهُ .

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke about those concerning whom Allah, Glorified and Exalted, says: "In it are men who love to purify themselves, and Allah loves those who purify themselves" [Surah al-Tawbah: 108]. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said (describing their qualities): "They are people who used to clean themselves after relieving themselves (istinja') with water (to attain purity), and they did not spend the whole night sleeping (rather, they would spend part of the night in worship and devotion)."
