It is narrated from Abdullah bin Ubayd bin Umayr (may Allah have mercy on him): "It was the practice of Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever he entered his house, he would recite Ayat al-Kursi in all its corners and nooks: 'Allah, there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation does not tire Him. And He is the Most High, the Most Great' [Surah al-Baqarah: 255]."
Abu Ya'la recorded it in his Musnad; all its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy) and reliable, but there is a break (inqita') in the chain because Abdullah bin Ubayd's hearing from Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) is not established.
