Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 3477 — hadith 3472-3481

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Act upon the commands of the Noble Qur'an: regard what it makes lawful as lawful and what it makes unlawful as unlawful, follow it, and do not deny any part of it. Whatever of it becomes unclear to you, refer it back to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and to the people of knowledge after me, so that they may inform you of its reality. Believe in the Torah and the Injil (as being from Allah), and do not reject what the prophets (peace be upon them) were given by their Lord. Let the Qur'an and the clear explanation within it be sufficient for you, for it is an intercessor whose intercession is accepted, and an advocate (for the truth) whose word is believed. Indeed, on the Day of Resurrection every verse of the Qur'an will be a light. I was given Surah al-Baqarah from the 'First Remembrance' (the Preserved Tablet); I was given Surah Ta Ha and the 'Tawasin' (the surahs beginning with Ta Sin) from (the knowledge of) the Tablets of Musa (peace be upon him); I was given the Opening of the Book (al-Fatihah) and the final verses of Surah al-Baqarah from a special treasure beneath the Throne; and the 'Mufassal' surahs were given to me as an additional gift."
