It is narrated from Sayyiduna Atiyyah bin Busr al-Mazini (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Akkaf bin Wada'ah al-Hilali (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "O Akkaf, do you have a wife?" He said: No (then the narrator narrated the complete hadith), in which there is also that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, these (women) are the ones who put Yusuf, Dawud and Kursuf to trial." He said: O Messenger of Allah, who is this Kursuf? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He was a man of the Children of Israel who lived (as a devout worshipper) on one of the shores of the sea. He fasted by day and stood in prayer by night, and never slackened in his abundant prayer and fasting. Then, having fallen in love with a woman, he disbelieved in Allah, the Mighty, and so he abandoned all the worship of his Lord in which he used to be absorbed. Then Allah Almighty came to his rescue because of his past good deeds and accepted his repentance."
Musnad Abi Ya'la: 3462; Allamah al-Haythami mentioned in Majma' al-Zawa'id that its chain has weakness because of Mu'awiyah bin Yahya al-Sadafi and Baqiyyah bin al-Walid.
