It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he first sent it (to Abu Zur'ah) in writing and then afterwards related it to him face to face: Ka'b al-Ahbar (may Allah have mercy on him) told us that he finds this written among the contents of the Torah: "Indeed, Satan has no power over a servant who, from evening until morning, says: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bismika wa kalimatikat-tammati minash-sharri fis-sammati wal-'ammah, wa as'aluka bismika wa kalimatikat-tammati min khayri ma tus'alu wa min khayri ma tu'ti, wa khayri ma tukhfi, wa khayri ma tubdi, Allahumma inni as'aluka bismika wa kalimatikat-tammati min sharri ma yujalla bihin-nahar' (O Allah, I seek refuge with You by Your Name and Your perfect, complete Word from the evil of venomous creatures and general calamities; and I ask You by Your Name and Your complete Word for the best of what You are asked for, the best of the blessings You grant, and the good You keep hidden and that You make manifest. O Allah, by Your Name and Your perfect Word I seek Your refuge from the evil that appears as the day grows bright)." Ka'b al-Ahbar (may Allah have mercy on him) said that if it is daytime he should recite this supplication, and if it is night he should say: 'min sharri ma dajana bihil-layl' (from the evil that arises as the darkness of night spreads).
(134) And the hadith of Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) has already been given at the beginning of the hadith about the Prophets (peace be upon them).
