قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرِ [ ابْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ] : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ بْنِ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ شُرَيْحٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا : أَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي عَلَى الْحَصِيرِ ، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ فِي كِتَابِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : وَجَعَلْنَا جَهَنَّمَ لِلْكَافِرِينَ حَصِيرًا ؟ قَالَتْ [ عَائِشَةُ ] رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا : لَا ، لَمْ يَكُنْ [رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ] يُصَلِّي عَلَيْهِ .

It is narrated from Shurayh (may Allah have mercy on him) that he asked the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): "Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) perform prayer on a mat (hasir)? For I have read this saying of Allah in the Book of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: 'And We have made Hell a prison (hasir) for the disbelievers' [Surah al-Isra': 8]." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "No, he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not pray on a mat."
