It is narrated from Imam al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) that a man used to sit in the gathering of Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him), and he was among those who were the last to bid him farewell. He said: "O Abu Aishah! You are indeed the choicest of the Qurra' (the scholars and men of learning) and their leader; your dignity is an adornment for them and your slip is a disgrace for them. So never let the whisperings (and worries) of poverty and long life enter your heart."
[Musaddad recorded it; grading: sahih al-isnad (its chain is authentic).]
