قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ لَيْثِ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمٍ ، عَمَّنْ حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنْ مَعْقِلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ قَالَ : قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ وَشَهِدَ بِهِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَكَرَ الشِّرْكَ فَقَالَ : " هُوَ أَخْفَى فِيكُمْ مِنْ دَبِيبِ النَّمْلِ " فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، هَلِ الشِّرْكُ إِلَّا أَنْ يَجْعَلَ مَعَ اللهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ ؟ فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " ثَكِلَتْكَ أُمُّكَ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ الشِّرْكُ أَخْفَى فِيكُمْ مِنْ دَبِيبِ النَّمْلِ ، وَسَأَدُلُّكَ عَلَى شَيْءٍ إِذَا فَعَلْتَهُ ذَهَبَ عَنْكَ صِغَارُ الشِّرْكِ وَكِبَارُهُ أَوْ صَغِيرُ الشِّرْكِ وَكَبِيرُهُ ، قُلِ : اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَا أَعْلَمُ " .
قُلْتُ : لَيْثٌ ضَعِيفٌ لِسُوءِ حِفْظِهِ وَاخْتِلَاطِهِ وَشَيْخُهُ مُبْهَمٌ .
3212 \ 2 - وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي إِسْرَائِيلَ ، ثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى : أَمْ جَعَلُوا لِلهِ شُرَكَاءَ خَلَقُوا كَخَلْقِهِ ، أَخْبَرَنِي لَيْثٌ ابْنُ أَبِي سُلَيْمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : إِمَّا حَضَرَ ذَلِكَ حُذَيْفَةُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَإِمَّا أَخْبَرَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَذَكَرَهُ .
3212 \ 3 - وَحَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحُصَيْنِ ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ لَيْثِ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ مَعْقِلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ قَالَ : شَهِدْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، أَوْ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " الشِّرْكُ أَخْفَى فِيكُمْ مِنْ دَبِيبِ النَّمْلِ " ثُمَّ قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " أَلَا أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى مَا يُذْهِبُ عَنْكَ صَغِيرَ ذَلِكَ وَكَبِيرَهُ ؟ " قُلِ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَا أَعْلَمُ " .
3212 \ 4 - حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ ، ثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ ، وَفَهْدٌ قَالَا : ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ ، بِهِ .
قُلْتُ : لَيْثٌ ضَعِيفٌ لِسُوءِ حِفْظِهِ وَاخْتِلَاطِهِ وَشَيْخُهُ مُبْهَمٌ .

3212 \ 3 - وَحَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحُصَيْنِ ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ لَيْثِ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ مَعْقِلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ قَالَ : شَهِدْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، أَوْ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " الشِّرْكُ أَخْفَى فِيكُمْ مِنْ دَبِيبِ النَّمْلِ " ثُمَّ قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " أَلَا أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى مَا يُذْهِبُ عَنْكَ صَغِيرَ ذَلِكَ وَكَبِيرَهُ ؟ " قُلِ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَا أَعْلَمُ " .
3212 \ 4 - حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ ، ثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ ، وَفَهْدٌ قَالَا : ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ ، بِهِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) testified to this from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), mentioning the subtleties of shirk (associating partners with Allah), said: "Shirk among you is more hidden than the sound of an ant creeping." At this Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said (in astonishment): O Messenger of Allah! Is shirk not only that someone is made a god alongside Allah? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Bakr! May your mother lose you (that is, this matter is far deeper and more deserving of attention than you think). Shirk within you is more hidden than the creeping of an ant. Shall I not guide you to something which, when you adopt it, removes shirk from you, small and great (of every kind)? Supplicate with this du'a: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika an ushrika bika wa ana a'lamu, wa astaghfiruka lima la a'lamu' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating anything with You, and I seek Your forgiveness for that (shirk) of which I have no knowledge)."
I (Ibn Hajar) say: Layth bin Abi Sulaym is a da'if (weak) narrator because of his poor memory and his mental confusion (ikhtilat), and his teacher is also unnamed (unknown).
Imam Abu Ya'la narrated, with his chain through Ibn Jurayj, under the saying of Allah Almighty: 'Or have they assigned to Allah partners who created as He created?' [Surah al-Ra'd: 16], that Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated it from Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): either he himself was present in the gathering of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) told him that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this same thing mentioned above.
In another chain it is narrated from Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him); he relates: I was present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) together with Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) (or Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) told me) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shirk within you is more hidden than the creeping of an ant." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not teach you words that will remove from you every aspect of this shirk, small and great? Say: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika an ushrika bika wa ana a'lamu, wa astaghfiruka lima la a'lamu' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating anything with You, and I ask Your forgiveness for that shirk of which I have no knowledge)."
Musa bin Muhammad also transmitted this same narration with his chain through Abd al-Aziz.
