It is narrated from one of the Companions of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever loves to meet Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, Allah Almighty loves to meet him; and whoever dislikes meeting Allah Almighty, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, dislikes meeting him." Hearing this, the people began to weep and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Which of us does not dislike death?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is not what I mean (as you understand it); rather, Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, has said: 'Then if he (the dying one) is one of those brought near (to Allah), then (for him is) rest, fragrance and a Garden of bliss' [Surah al-Waqi'ah: 88-89]. So when he is in that state (of dying), he comes to love meeting Allah Almighty, and Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, loves meeting him even more. (And in contrast) Allah Almighty has said: 'But if he is one of the deniers (of the truth), those astray, then his hospitality will be of scalding water' [Surah al-Waqi'ah: 92-93]. So when he is in that state, he dislikes meeting Allah Almighty, and Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, dislikes meeting him even more."
