It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Munaqqa' (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with the sadaqah (zakah) of our camels and said: "O Messenger of Allah, this is the sadaqah of our camels." He (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered it to be received, and it was distributed. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, among these camels some are a gift for you and some are zakah." So I separated the gift from the zakah. I stayed there for some days, and the talk spread among the people that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was about to send Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) to the people of 'Raqiq Misr' to collect sadaqah from them. I said (to myself): "We have plenty of wealth, but my family has no (ready) money; so should I not pay the sadaqah before Khalid bin al-Walid comes?" So I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he (peace and blessings be upon him) was riding a she-camel, and with him was a black man so tall that his head was level with the head of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); I had never seen any person taller than him. When I drew near to him (peace and blessings be upon him), that (black man) lunged toward me, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) restrained him. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, people are saying that you are about to send Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) to the region of 'Raqiq Misr' to collect sadaqah."
At this the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) raised both his hands (in supplication) so high that we could see the whiteness of his armpits, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, I do not at all permit them to attribute lies to me." Sayyiduna al-Munaqqa' (may Allah be pleased with him) said: After that I never narrated anything attributed to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) except what the Book of Allah spoke of or what the Sunnah of the Messenger informed of. (He used to say:) When lies were told against him (peace and blessings be upon him) during his blessed lifetime, then what will the state be after his death (peace and blessings be upon him)?
