It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Teach (people goodness and virtue), and do not be harsh and severe (in teaching), for the fact is that a teacher who teaches (with love and kindness) is far better than one who is harsh and reproachful."
Imam al-Harith bin Abi Usamah recorded this hadith in his Musnad; its chain contains Isma'il bin Ayyash al-Himsi and Humayd bin Abi Suwayd. Imam al-Bayhaqi also transmitted this same report in "Shu'ab al-Iman". According to the hadith scholars, the narration of Isma'il bin Ayyash from other than the people of his own region (the Syrians) is weak.
