قَالَ الْحُمَيْدِيُّ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، ثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَعْدٍ الْأَعْمَى يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ يَقُولُ : خَرَجَ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ إِلَى عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ وَهُوَ بِمِصْرَ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ حَدِيثٍ سَمِعَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرَ الْقِصَّةَ .
It is narrated from Ata bin Abi Rabah that Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) set out (from Madinah) to Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) in Egypt in order to ask him about a hadith that he had heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the narrator related the whole story.
