قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ ذَرٍّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ ، إِنَّهُ لَيَعْتَرِضُ فِي صَدْرِي الشَّيْءُ وَوَدِدْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ حُمَمًا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِي قَدْ يَأَّسَ الشَّيْطَانَ أَنْ يُعْبَدَ بِأَرْضِكُمْ هَذِهِ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى ، وَلَكِنَّهُ قَدْ رَضِيَ بِالْمُحَقَّرَاتِ مِنْ أَعْمَالِكُمْ .
قُلْتُ : رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ وَالنَّسَائِيُّ مِنْ حَدِيثِ ذَرٍّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ : إِنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرَ بَعْضَهُ ، وَزَادَ : الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِي رَدَّ كَيْدَهُ إِلَى الْوَسْوَسَةِ .
وَالْأَوَّلُ مُنْقَطِعٌ .
قُلْتُ : رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ وَالنَّسَائِيُّ مِنْ حَدِيثِ ذَرٍّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ : إِنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرَ بَعْضَهُ ، وَزَادَ : الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِي رَدَّ كَيْدَهُ إِلَى الْوَسْوَسَةِ .
وَالْأَوَّلُ مُنْقَطِعٌ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! By the One who sent you with the truth, there arise in my chest (such whispers and) thoughts that (rather than bring them to my tongue) I would prefer to be burnt to charcoal." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "All praise is for Allah, who has made Satan despair of ever being worshipped again in this land of yours, but he has become content with those deeds of yours that you consider trivial and insignificant."
I (Ibn Hajar) say: Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i narrated it from the narration of Dharr, from Abdullah bin Shaddad, from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), that a man said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Then he mentioned part of this hadith, and in it there are these additional words: "All praise is for Allah, who has turned back Satan's plotting to mere whispering."
And the chain of the first narration is munqati' (broken).
