وَقَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو التَّيَّاحِ ، عَنْ مَعْبَدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ ، قَالَ : خَطَبَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ : ( أَلَا مَا بَالُ أَقْوَامٍ يُصَلُّونَ صَلَاةً قَدْ صَحِبْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَمَا رَأَيْتُهُ يُصَلِّيهَا ، وَقَدْ سَمِعْنَاهُ يَنْهَى عَنْهَا ، يَعْنِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ - ) .
It is narrated from Ma'bad al-Juhani (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed us in a sermon and said: "Beware! What is the matter with people who perform a prayer about which I can say that I remained in the company and companionship of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), yet I never saw him (peace and blessings be upon him) perform that prayer; rather, the truth is that we heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) forbid it," by which he meant the two rak'ahs after Asr.
