Abu Burdah bin Abi Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: I came to the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and she related that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The flight of birds (that is, taking good or bad omens from them) is entirely subject to the divine decree." And he (peace and blessings be upon him) greatly liked a good omen (fa'l), that is, taking a good sign from a good word.
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic); Imam Ahmad recorded it in al-Musnad (25390) and Ibn Hibban in al-Sahih (6117), and researchers have declared its chain strong.
