Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 295 — The times in which prayer is prohibited

It is narrated from Imam Tawus (may Allah have mercy on him) that he used to offer (voluntary) prayer after Asr, and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) forbade him from it.
Upon this, Tawus (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "This prayer was forbidden only lest someone make it a ladder (by making it a regular habit that reaches into the other times)."
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said (reciting the Qur'anic verse): (It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should have any choice (to go against it) in their affair) [Surah al-Ahzab: 36]. And he further said: "I do not know whether you will be punished for it or rewarded."
Its chain is sahih (authentic), and its origin is in Sunan al-Nasa'i.
