It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The beginning of the ruin and destruction of past nations came about through the matter of divine decree (through perverse argument or denial), and O my Ummah! You too will be tested through them (those who deny divine decree), or you will soon be put to trial through them. So if you meet them, or live in their time, then you be the ones to question them (about their false ideas), that is, you be the ones who call them to account, and do not give them the opportunity to put (their doubt-laden) questions to you, lest you fall into trial."
The chain of this hadith contains an unnamed narrator ("from a man"), because of which this chain is technically da'if (weak); however, a warning of the same kind about the trial of denying divine decree is found in other reliable narrations as well.
