Hisham bin Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father (Urwah bin al-Zubayr, may Allah have mercy on him) that the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), heard me talking after the Isha prayer, which the Bedouins called 'Atamah. We were in a room separated from her by a screen of palm leaves and branches, and she called out: "O Urayyah! (or: O Urwah!) What is this night-time talk? I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sleeping before this prayer, nor did I find him talking after it. He would either sleep and so remain safe (from the fatigue of the day and from idle talk), or pray and so gain (reward)."
Imam Abu Ya'la narrated with his chain from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), likewise, that she said: "I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sleeping before Isha, nor occupied in idle talk after it; he would either remember Allah and so gather (good), or sleep and so remain safe (from every kind of evil)."
