It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: I was with the Commander of the Believers, Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said to me: "Go and find out, and tell me who that person is." The narrator states that it was the practice of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever he sent someone for some need or task, he would say (emphatically): "When you return, give me the full report of the matter for which I sent you, and also tell me what reply was given to me from there." Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I said (on returning): "You ordered me to find out who that person is; he is Sayyiduna Suhayb (may Allah be pleased with him), and with him is a slave woman." At this Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Tell him to join us, even if he has a slave woman with him." Then the narrator mentioned the full hadith.
