قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَنِي أَبِي ، وَبَعَثَ الْعَبَّاسُ ابْنَهُ الْفَضْلَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ... فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا أَتَيْنَاهُمْ قَالُوا : وَمَا وَرَاءَكُمْ أَسْعَدُ ، أَمْ سَعِيدٌ . ؟
It is narrated from the son of Rabi'ah bin al-Harith bin Abd al-Muttalib that he said: My father sent me, and Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) sent his son al-Fadl (may Allah be pleased with him), to the blessed presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); then he narrated the (complete) hadith. He says: When we got back to them, they asked (to know the outcome): "What news do you bring? Have you come with good tidings of success, or have you failed?"
