Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 2803 — Dislike of naming after tyrants

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a place that was called "Ghabirah" (meaning a dusty or dreary land). So he (peace and blessings be upon him) (in view of his dislike of its name) said: "It is 'Khadirah' (meaning a green, lush and flourishing land)."
This hadith is narrated in Musnad Ahmad and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). It was the blessed habit of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to change names with a disliked or ill-omened meaning to good and blessed names.
