It is narrated from Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) that a child was born to the brother of the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), and they named him al-Walid. Then they brought him into the blessed presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Have you named him?" They said: Yes, we have named him al-Walid. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said by way of rebuke: "Mah, mah (Stop, desist)! His name is Abd al-Rahman. Have you named him after the names of your Pharaohs? There will certainly be a man in my Ummah called al-Walid; he will prove even harsher on my Ummah than the oppression Pharaoh inflicted on his people." The narrator Abd al-Rahman says: I asked (my teacher) which al-Walid he is? And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If al-Walid bin Yazid is given the caliphate (then it is he); otherwise it is al-Walid bin Abd al-Malik."
This report is found in the Musnad of al-Harith (Bughyah: 2800). Its chain contains Isma'il bin Ayyash's narration from the people of the Hijaz, which according to the hadith scholars is weak; moreover, most imams have declared the last part of its text munkar (denounced) or mudraj (an interpolation).
