It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "Since I accepted Islam I have never told a lie except once. I used to saddle the mount of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when a saddle-making craftsman came from Ta'if and asked which kind of saddle the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) liked most. I said: 'The saddle made in Ta'if whose sides are sloping and raised (al-munakkabah).'" Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Whereas the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked it. Then, when that craftsman fitted exactly such a saddle and the mount was brought to him (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: 'Who saddled this for us?' I said: 'So-and-so, whom you brought from Ta'if, saddled it for you.' Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered: 'Take this mount back to Ibn Mas'ud (so that he may set it right himself).'"
Musnad Abi Ya'la: 2762. Its chain contains al-Imam al-A'zam Abu Hanifah and his student Imam Abu Yusuf al-Qadi; this narration is jayyid (good) in its chain.
