It is narrated concerning Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sat down, he would take the sandals off his (peace and blessings be upon him) blessed feet and hold them tucked under his arms; then, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, he would put the sandals on him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he would walk ahead of him (peace and blessings be upon him) carrying the blessed staff until he (peace and blessings be upon him) entered his blessed apartment."
The chain of this narration is hasan (good), and it is reliable evidence of the special service of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) in the court of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and of his being "the keeper of the sandals and staff".
