It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Two people should not hold a secret conversation and whisper to each other, ignoring their third companion, for this act hurts and distresses the believer, and Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, dislikes that a believer be hurt."
Imam Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili recorded it in his Musnad. Its chain has weakness because a narrator named al-Hasan bin Kathir is alone in narrating it; however, the basis of this hadith is found in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, which fully support its legal meaning.
