It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hawt bin Abd al-Uzza (may Allah be pleased with him) that a caravan belonging to the tribe of Mudar came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with a bell, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that "they cut it off (that is, remove it)." From that time on, the bell came to be regarded as disliked. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the angels do not accompany a caravan in which there is a bell."
Its chain is hasan (good), and Imam Ahmad also narrated it, while the basis of this meaning is found in Sahih Muslim.
