وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ سُرَيْجٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُطَّلِبُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : " كَانَتْ أَبْوَابُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تُقْرَعُ بِالْأَظَافِيرِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "The doors (of the blessed chambers) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to be knocked on with fingernails (because of the Companions' utmost courtesy and respect)."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded this hadith in his Musnad; this narration shows the etiquette of the court of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Companions' practice of utmost reverence and of presenting themselves quietly.
