وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ جُدْعَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ سَرِيعٍ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، إِنِّي مَدَحْتُ اللهَ مِدْحَةً ، وَمَدَحْتُكَ أُخْرَى ، قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هَاتِ ، وَابْدَأْ بِمِدْحَةِ اللهِ تَعَالَى " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Aswad bin Sari' (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have composed a piece in praise and glorification of Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, and I have also composed another in praise of your noble status." At this the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Present that piece, and begin (your recitation) with the praise and glorification of Allah Almighty."
The narrator Ali bin Zayd bin Jud'an in the chain of this report is weak; however, there are supporting reports for it in other books of hadith which establish its basis.
